Chairman's First Blog Family Link Up September 2009 October 2009 November 2009 End February 2010 April 2010 June 2010
Dear members,The end of June, the Summer Solstice and the England Team World Cup chances have now been and gone. No doubt the past months rallies have enjoyed glorious weather and long may that continue.Last weekend was the new style Family Link-Up (run by the Avon Centre) and adults and children attending had a really fun time, so much so that next year’s event will definitely take place – courtesy of the Gloucester Centre. Many thanks to the 2 other Wiltshire caravans that accompanied me to this ‘joint’ event to provide at least a token presence. The National at the end of May was also a surprisingly fair weather event (with the exception of the Opening Ceremony) and we had 9 caravans in attendance with excellent Entertainment provided by Club.I am pleased to say that the Secretary’s winning ways appear to have been successful in securing a very interesting Dinner Dance guest for this November in the form of the Caravan Club Events Committee Chairman, Mr Rodney Lambert (and his wife Di) who has a finger in a surprisingly large portfolio of Caravan Club operations throughout the year. Final written confirmation is all that is awaited.Wessex is bearing down on us at breakneck speed and if you haven’t already booked in then I’m sorry to say you have missed the early bird £5.00 discount. I don’t have the latest attendance figures to hand but from last reports, the Wiltshire submissions at this time certainly do not reflect the numbers that have signed up to take part in events. Also, is there anyone out there in possession of an automated ‘Bingo Machine’ that they are willing to loan the Wessex Team as the usual source is no longer available. If so please make contact with Phil or Wendy. The 2011 Rally programme is still struggling despite all Phil’s sterling efforts and the submissions by our hard core of Rally Officers. Please – support your Centre and have a go because if we don’t increase our pool of members willing to sacrifice a weekend or two a year then in a few years time we will be down to 1 rally a month and apathy will have won. Also, the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford in a couple of weeks time still has a large number of spaces left. If we cannot drum up interest in this event and the superb site the Rally Officers have secured then it is an almost certainty that we will lose it. The school is already making noises about the potential revenue it can raise (at more than twice the rate we are getting) if they open it up to the general public for camping. Why? Because it is in a prime place where all the aircraft make their turns and hence a better vantage point than actually being in the Show. Not happy with the way things are being done? It is not too early to be considering whether you wish to play a greater part in the decision making and running of the Centre by applying for Committee. The AGM isn’t that far away and remember, all places are up for contest regardless of position. Speak to any Committee member if you need any further details of what is involved. That’s it from me for now, I’m off to the Observation Rally at Urchfont and hope to see lots of you there. For those about to disappear on their Summer Hols, may the weather be kind and have a great time,Signing Off,Glynn
